Heart & Stroke Foundation – Core Instructor Course

The Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Core Instructor Course (CIC) is a one-day program that is designed to provide the core foundation for teaching and facilitating regardless of an instructor’s area of specialization. It is aimed at delivering a consistent and uniform core knowledge and skill in instructional methodology. In order to become a Heart and Stroke Foundation Instructor, the candidate not only completes the CIC, but must also complete a discipline specific course in BLS, PALS, ACLS, and Standard First. The course covers the following areas of learning:

  • Professional Foundations
  • Planning & Preparation
  • Classroom Management
  • Instructional Methodology & Strategies
  • Assessment & Evaluation

ACLS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

This one-day course is required to become an ACLS Instructor and teach the ACLS Provider and ACLS Provider Renewal courses for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Candidates apply to the program by providing recommendation documentation that is reviewed by a selection committee.

Prerequisites:

  • Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – Core Instructor Course.
  • Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – ACLS Provider card.
  • Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider card.
  • Current registration as a healthcare professional including physicians, paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, dentists and military levels QL5 and above.

PALS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

This one-day course is required to become a PALS Instructor and teach the PALS Provider and PALS Provider Renewal courses for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Candidates apply to the program by providing recommendation documentation that is reviewed by a selection committee.

  • Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – Core Instructor Course.
  • Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – PALS Provider card.
  • Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada – Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider card.
  • Current registration as a healthcare professional including physicians, paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, dentists and military levels QL5 and above.

BLS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The Basic Life Support Instructor course is a one-day training program that is the necessary requirement before an individual may commence teaching Basic Life Support courses for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Within six months of successful completion of this course and prior to receiving instructor status, instructor candidates must complete their monitoring of a full provider course monitored by an Instructor Trainer or Experienced Instructor.
